Two days after the cold-blooded murder of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh, another Bihar based journalist Pankaj Mishra was shot in Arwal. He was attacked by two assailants on a bike while he was coming out of a bank and heading towards his home.
Who is Journalist Pankaj Mishra?
Pankaj is a journalist working with the local Hindi newspaper Rashtriya Sahara. He lives in Arwal and runs a local help center where he helps people with various paper work. According to his statement, he was carrying RS. 2 lakh to deposit in a bank.
Why was He Attacked?
While, earlier, Dilip Kumar, the SP of Arwal, stated that the reason for shooting Mishra is personal enmity, Mishra had a brief story to tell. It seems the personal animosity was due to Mishra’s profession.
As told by Mishra to NDTV, both the assailants are close to JD(U) legislator, Satyadeo Singh from Kurtha. Kundan Mahto, the arrested assailant, is the son of Singh’s personal assistant Anant Kumar Verma. The police meanwhile is on a look out for the other attacker, Ambika Mahto. According to Mishra, in the past, he had written against Kundan and this is the reason why he attacked him.
Pankaj meanwhile is being treated at Patna hospital.
