Network World Says You’re Doing IIoT Implementation “Wrong”
Network World says a lot of IIoT adopters are “going about the process all wrong” as they try to implement systems. This sort of automation is “far from simple,” and the outlet says the process has to be spearheaded by the line-of-business side of the company, and not necessarily the IT department. IIoT projects require operational technology experts, not just people skilled at technology, a recent article argued. Read more here.
SAP and Endress+Hauser Partner Up
SAP and Endress+Hauser are partnering up to develop Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications for the process industry, according to Control Design. Apparently, both companies are planning to work closely together to develop joint solutions, sales, and customer implementation. The eventual goal is to integrate Endress+Hauser field instruments into the SAP cloud platform, and integrate master and sensor data and measurement values into customer business, logistics and production processes. They are also seeking to develop new digital services that can better focus on predictive maintenance and quality.
The Future of IIoT Includes Getting Smarter and More Secure
TechTarget reported on the future of IIoT, and came up with three predictions for where the technology is headed. For instance, the outlet predicts that as prices drop and capabilities increase, more facilities will get onboard with implementing smart IIoT processes. Secondly, TechTarget predicts that “a mix of cloud and fog computing” is the future of IIoT for most facilities, rather than packaged software and on-premises systems many use today. Finally, IIoT developers need to better examine security protocols and prepare for more creative cybersecurity attacks by identifying risks and solutions.
