A dive into JEE Main Exam:
1. Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates are required to fulfill specific criteria before filling the JEE Main 2019 application form. They are listed below:
- Earlier candidates must have been born on or after 1st October 1995 for
General Candidates (for reserved categories it is 1st October 1990). This
year on, the age limit has been removed for the candidates.
- Candidates must have qualified higher secondary examination or equivalent either in 2018 or 2019.
- Candidates must have minimum 5 subjects in a higher secondary standard.
- Candidates can take the JEE Main examination only for 2 attempts- one in January and the other in April. (This year it was 8-12th January, 2019 with about 10 lakhs registrations)
- A diploma holder (3 years) can also apply for JEE Main exam 2019.Note: As you may already know, the JEE Main Application Form has been released for the January 2019 Examination already.
2. Syllabus for JEE Main 2019:
Well, before you dive right into JEE preparation, make sure you know the entire syllabus of JEE. Stick a print out of it on your wall and keep checking topics. You will come across a lot of difficult exams like FITJEE and such that are far more difficult than JEE standards and may not exactly be based on JEE syllabus entirely. But there will be prejudices for such exams and the peer pressure might make you want to go on paths that will deflect from yours. Remember, everyone is different and you must follow your own exam study plan. This means sticking to JEE Main exam syllabus.
3. Top colleges participating in JEE Main 2019:
We have already established how JEE Main is a gateway to a variety of top technical institutes in the country. All the NITs and also some Centrally Funded Technical Institutes conduct their counseling procedures on the basis of JEE Main result scores. 4. JEE Main Exam Pattern
Like every year, JEE Main exam 2019 will also be conducted in two papers – Paper-1 (for admission to B.E. /B. Tech) and Paper-2 (for admission to B. Arch/B. Planning courses). For this, you can opt for either Paper 1 or Paper 2 or you can actually opt for both the papers according to the programs you want to pursue. The duration of both the tests is 3 hours each.

Working of Paper 1:
- Paper 1 has objective type questions (MCQs) in which you have to
choose 1 correct answer out of a set of four given options.
- Marking scheme- 4 marks are awarded for each correct answer and 1 mark is deducted for each wrongly answered question.
- There is no negative marking if you have not attempted a question at all.

Note:
- Paper 2 has questions from Mathematics (Part 1), Aptitude Test
(part 2), and Drawing(part 3)
- Paper 2 is conducted in offline mode (Pen & Paper)
- The JEE Main exam duration is 3 hours (with an exception of 4 hours for Physically Disabled candidates)
- Just as Paper 1, every correct answer will be awarded 4 marks while 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect or multi-responses.
5. JEE Main result and
selection:
So every year lakhs of students appear for JEE and only a single percentage of those that appear actually make it to the IITs. Of course, there are other reputed institutes one can get into with JEE Main result. Last year, around 12 lakh students appeared for the JEE Main exam. The JEE main result 2018 for Paper 1 was declared online by the CBSE on 30th April 2018 on the official IIT JEE website.
How are ranks for JEE Main computed? This question comes up way too often. So, let us quickly break it down for you:
Not so long ago, JEE removed the use of board marks as a component of JEE Main rank computation.
Rank compilation for paper 1-
JEE Main result for Paper 1- This shall comprise of the four NTA scores for each of the three subjects (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry) and the total in Paper-1 of JEE (Main)–2019 for the first attempt.
Rank list for admission to B.E. /B. Tech. (in institutions other than IITs):
- NTA score of the raw mark in Mathematics
- NTA score of the raw mark in Physics
- NTA score of the raw mark in Chemistry
- Candidates older in age
- If the resolution is not possible after this criterion, candidates will be given the same rank.
Important: The calculated NTA scores for all the shifts/sessions will be merged and declared by 31st January 2019. This shall comprise of the four NTA scores for each of the three subjects (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry) and the total in Paper-1 of JEE (Main)–2019 for the first attempt.
Rank compilation for paper 2-
Since JEE (Main)-2019 Paper-2 may be conducted in single-shift only, the raw marks obtained by all the candidates who appeared in the first attempt will be declared by 31st January 2019. This shall comprise the actual marks obtained in Paper-2 of JEE (Main)– 2019 for the first attempt.
