The first mistake made when cutting through that premium steak is the use of a standard kitchen knife to slice the meat. The knife should not only be made of the best quality, but it must also be appropriate for steak consumption.

Steak Knives Vs. Other Knives BladeSharpnessComfortBalanceSturdiness

Slicing a high-quality steak should not be done with just any ordinary knife. All knives are not the same. There is a particular reason why it is labeled explicitly as a steak knife.

Steak Knives Vs. Other Knives

Just like a kitchen knife, a quality steak knife is characterized by sturdiness, toughness, resistance to corrosion, and to some extent, malleability.

There are two points where steak knives are different from others. First, the steak knife is used to slice food on top of a plate rather than a chopping board. Since plates are harder than chopping boards, it can considerably dull the blade of the steak knife.

Lastly, a steak knife looks good enough to be displayed on its own. Kitchen knives are all performance and no form. A steak knife, on the other hand, looks and feels elegant.

With their differences explained, let’s now look at the factors that should be considered when choosing a steak knife.

Blade

The type of blade used in a steak knife affects the food and the dining experience. Some steak knives have serrated blades that have jagged saw-like edges. This blade can saw steaks that have a tough texture.

A non serrated steak knife set, on the other hand, has a plain, smooth, and sharp edge. Because of the design of this blade, the knife can cut a steak cleanly and accurately. The non serrated steak knife set is more popular because of this reason.

Sharpness

A good sharp knife can bring out the flavor of any food. The sharper the steak knife, the less stress on the meat.

When the blade of the knife is dull, it could tear the meat fibers of the steak. The knife needs to be sharp for a quality looking steak with smooth cuts.

Comfort

The handle of the steak knife should be comfortable to the touch. It needs to fit snugly and beautifully in the hands of the user.

Some handles are designed for optimum performance while others are for show. People need to consider what is important to them. As a safe bet, there needs to be a balance between the two.

Balance

A good steak knife needs to be well-balanced. This means that the handle should look and weigh proportionally with the blade. The blade should also be positioned in a straight line keeping in mind the angle.

Sturdiness

The blade needs to be sturdy enough to slice through different textures without chipping. Steak knives should also have the ability to resist rust. It should be made using durable materials such as stainless steel, so it lasts for years to come.

Steak knives are among the least understood and most overlooked slicing tool in the cutlery world. But, this cutlery is part of what gives steaks a quality experience. Great consideration must be made to choose the best steak knife.
