What Is The Immune System?

The immune system is made up of a variety of organs, cells, and proteins. It’s a fairly complicated yet essential component of your body that fights invading germs (toxins, fungi, viruses, etc). In layman’s terms, the immunological system is what keeps you healthy.

The immune system is made up of two main components:

  • Innate Immune System
  • Adaptive (Acquired) Immune System

How the Immune System Works?

Let’s take a closer look at how your body’s immune system protects you, with an emphasis on how the two types of immunity work together.

The Innate System

Consider your body’s innate system as your most loyal supporter. It has been with you since conception and springs into action the moment there is a hazard. When an invader comes in touch with your body, the natural immunological response surrounds it. The natural system then absorbs the invader in its phagocytes cells, swiftly destroying it.

The Adaptive System

The adaptive immune system needs help from the innate immune system to generate antibodies that protect you from pathogens. These antibodies can only be created after you’ve been infected with a specific disease. When the immune system is bolstered, it becomes more efficient at detecting any new invader. This simply means that the adaptive immune system strengthens your immune system, whereas innate immunity focuses on eliminating anything that comes into contact with it.

Where Does This Take Place?

Tonsils, spleen, lymph nodes, bone marrow, adenoids, and numerous other locations are all examples of body sites where immune cells may be found. Defending your whole body is necessary for your health, as attackers will most likely target you through the nose or mouth.

How Can You Help Your Immune System?

The immune system is, without a doubt, extremely intelligent. It understands how to identify and combat dangers in the same manner. There are some things you can do to aid your immunological system stay healthy, though. These include:

  • Fruits and vegetables are beneficial for your health since they are high in antioxidants.
  • Vitamin D supplements should be taken if you are deficient in vitamin D (vitamin D aids in the proper functioning of the immune system).
  • Hand washing is crucial if you want to prevent the spread of germs.
  • Ensure you’re cooking meat thoroughly, drinking in moderation and avoiding smoking.
