Life Ok’s Chandrakanta serial is an interesting fantasy fiction which offers the viewers to witness fancy world filled with lot of imagination and inventions. Adapted from Chandrakanta novel, the serial has lot of things common but it is not exactly like the novel.
Here we share the most obvious difference between the two and also the major alterations done –
Marich, The Maharaj of Chunargarh Was Not Present in the Chandrakanta Novel
There is no character called as Marich in the novel. However, here in the serial he is the main antagonist. He has the power, the magic and he is the person who is in control of several lives. However, much to your surprise he wasn’t a part of the Chandrakanta novel.
In Chandrakanta Novel, Virendra Singh Is the Prince of Naugarh and Shivdutt, the Maharaj of Chunargarh
Unlike the serial that shows Virendra Singh as the son of Marich, the Maharaj of Chunargarh, the novel introduces him as the prince of Naugarh. On the other hand, Shivdutt is the Maharaj of Chunargarh. In the serial, the makers have however planned a twist where they’ll show Virendra is the real prince of Naugarh who was kidnapped by Marich for his own reasons.
Kroor Singh is not the Prime Minister of Jai Singh, But the Son of the Prime Minister
Kroor Singh in the serial is shown as Vijaygarh’s Prime Minister. However, in the Chandrakanta novel, he is the son of Vijaygarh’s Prime Minister who is in love with Chandrakanta. From.the very start he is as cruel as his name unlike the serial where we see some comic elements.
Chandrakanta Is Quite Innocent and Not a Decision Maker
In the serial, we see Chandrakanta being brave, confident and powerful right from the very start. However, in the novel, the princess of Vijaygarh was quite innocent and not much of a decision maker. In fact, she was dependent very much on her ayyara Chapla for most of her things.

However, here in the serial we see Chandrakanta as a very confident princess who owns her character like a boss.
Pandit Jagannath’s Role in the Chandrakanta Serial is Evil, but in the Novel He is a Good Man
In the novel, Pandit Jagannath played a central role who through his ramal and jyotishi gave sane and important advice. However, here in the serial, he is shown as an evil man with evil intentions.
Moreover, in the serial, all the ayyar have been swapped between Naugarh and Chunargarh. For instance, Tej Singh was Virendra’s most trusted ayyar.

However, here he is in Shivdutt’s loyalty. Perhaps after the revelation that Virendra is the real Naugarh princess, his loyalty will change.
Anyways, no matter what the adaptations are, the serial Chandrakanta is interesting in almost all aspects.
