If you haven’t signed into your accounts in the last two years, Google will permanently delete your account. To save storage space, Google used to have a policy of removing content from accounts that were no longer active. However, the business will completely erase such accounts in accordance with the new dormant accounts policy.
According to Google, this regulation only applies to personal accounts; therefore, accounts for businesses, schools, or other organizations won’t be impacted.
Google states that the account and all of its contents will be erased if it isn’t used or active for at least two years. Users’ email accounts, Gmail messages, Calendar events, Drive, Docs, and other Workspace files, YouTube, and Google Photos will be lost.
Google is taking this action because it thinks that if an account has been ignored for more than two years, there is a significant chance that it may be hacked. These accounts are frequently exposed, and once compromised, they can be used for everything from identity theft to the distribution of undesirable or even harmful content, such as spam, according to Google.
Beginning in December 2023, Google will start erasing these accounts. Google states that before deleting an account, they will send multiple notifications to both the account email address and the recovery email address in the months preceding the deletion (if one has been offered). Initially, the corporation would erase accounts that were initially created but never utilised.
How to keep your Inactive Gmail Accounts Active?
You must sign in to your Google account at least once every 24 months to keep it active. Google says in a statement that “If you have signed into your Google Account or any of our services recently, your account is considered active and will not be deleted.”
Additionally, you may keep your Google account active by using Sign in with Google to log into a third-party app or service, reading or sending emails, using Google Drive, watching YouTube videos, installing apps from the Google Play Store, and using Google Search.
Notably, users will no longer be deemed active until they specifically check in to Google Photos every two years. By doing this, you can prevent Google from deleting your content. However, Google will notify consumers several times before taking any such action.
