Who can apply for KVPY?
KVPY application forms can be filled by candidates studying in class 11 to 1st year of basic sciences UG course. Applicants should enroll in UG courses such as- B.Sc. /B.S. /B Stat /B Mat /Int. M.Sc. /M.S. The fellowship of the selected applicants will be activated if they join any of these courses only.
The eligibility norms are based on citizenship, age and academic criteria. Only Indian students can apply for this exam. They will receive the scholarship amount only if they study in India. They must be at least 16 years old to be eligible for the exam. The test has the following 3 academic streams:
- SA- Applicants studying Science stream in Class 11 can appear for this stream. They must secure at least 80% (70% for reserved category) in Class 10 board exam and 60% (50% for reserved category) in Class 12.
- SX- Applicants in the Science stream of Class 12 can appear for this stream. The academic criterion is the same as that for SA stream.
- SB- Applicants studying Science stream in the 1st year of graduation can appear for this stream. They must obtain a minimum of 60% aggregate (50% for reserved category) in Class 12 exam as also in the final exam of the 1st year UG course.
KVPY application forms can be filled by the online mode only. All eligible candidates are encouraged to register for the exam. What should you expect in the examination?
KVPY will be held in 2 stages- Written exam and Interview. The written test is scheduled to be held in the 1st week of November. The question paper will be available in both English and Hindi language. The duration of the test is 3 hours. The maximum marks of the exam are 100.
The paper will be designed separately for SA and SB/ SX stream. There will be 2 papers- Part I and Part II for each stream. For SA stream, both papers will be divided into 4 sections. Aspirants must answer 60 objective questions in Part I and 40 objective questions in Part II. All questions in Part I will carry 1 mark and 2 marks for Part II. Negative marking will be applicable for both sections.
For SB/ SX stream, Part I will consist of objective questions while descriptive questions will be asked in Part II. Students must attempt any 3 sections in Part 1 and any 2 sections in Part II. Marks will be deducted for wrong answers in both sections.
The syllabus for the exam is all science topics covered in Class 11/ 12 and 1st year of UG course. Candidates should refer NCERT textbooks to study for KVPY.
KVPY Interview will be conducted in January. All candidates who qualify the first stage will be eligible for this round. The panel will ask questions to assess the applicant’s knowledge and traits. Aspirants should have thoroughly studied the syllabus of the exam to answer the questions. They must also be able to answer some general questions related to science.
How are Results declared?
KVPY result for the written exam and interview will be declared separately on their official website. Result of the written exam will be declared in December. Interviews for qualified candidates will be conducted in January. The final result will be declared in March.
The criterion for final selection is – 75% of total marks in Aptitude Test + 25% of marks secured in Interview. After duly considering both stages, aspirants will be shortlisted via a merit list. Names of individuals who secure the scholarship will be enlisted in this list. Students must visit the KVPY website and enter their Registration Number and Password to check their result.
What to expect after KVPY Result?
Applicants who are shortlisted through the merit list will be granted the KVPY scholarship. They must follow certain procedures to get the scholarship. The fellowship is subject to verification of the necessary documents and marks obtained by students in the exam and interview. They must intimate the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana office by email about their admission to the UG course within the stipulated time period. The officials will then forward the required forms to individuals to start the fellowship program.
