Know When and How Much Did TMC Cashed in Electoral Bonds
According to Election Commission data, AITMC cashed in electoral bonds worth Rs 1609 crore from April 2019 to January 2024.
In the initial year of the Covid pandemic, October-November 2020 and January 2021, the party cashed in 65 electoral bonds worth Rs 43.4 crore.
During the West Bengal assembly elections held from March 27 to April 29, 2021, AITMC cashed in 171 electoral bonds worth Rs 55.44 crore, higher than before the elections.
After winning by a large margin in July, following the May 2 election results, the party cashed in 337 electoral bonds worth Rs 107.56 crore. The redemptions totaled Rs 141.92 crore in October 2021 and Rs 224 crore in January 2022.
Following a brief decline, AITMC cashed in Rs 18 crore worth of bonds in April 2022, rising to Rs 66.5 crore in July 2022, and peaking at Rs 143 crore in October 2022.
It is interesting to note that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) despite being influential in only 1 state of West Bengal is the political party that received the second-highest amount of electoral bonds after BJP, ahead of the grand old party the Indian National Congress (INC).
