Finally, “Rock On 2” one of the most awaited Bollywood movies of 2016 starring Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Shraddha Kapoor and Purab Kohli is released. As expected, the movie rightly hits ‘Magik’ amongst the young generation through its music, songs, lyrics, theme and the picturesque locations. The sequel rightly creates a balance between the past and the present perfectly without wrenching to give credibility to the character’s inner voices.
While, you get ready to catch up with the lives of Adi, Joe and KD, here we share the real reasons why Rock On 2 from the house of Excel Entertainment and Eros Now is a must watch for cine goers and music aficionados:
Acting of the Cast Is One of the Major Highlights
Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli and Farhan Akhtar slip into their character so well that it seems they have done nothing in the interim. The moment Arjun comes with his guitar, he just steals the show. Farhan Akhtar simply bowls us with his shifting emotions.
The two new additions – Shashank Arora and Shraddha Kapoor further add a tangy tadka by their performance. As a struggling sarod player, Shashank (Uday) makes a brilliant impact while Shraddha as the repressed musician carries the character of Jiah Sharma flawlessly.
The Exceptional Music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy
The song Jaago sung by Farhan Akhtar and Siddharth Mahadevan has a fascinating djent section that is immersing, Shraddha Kapoor’s Udja Re is an electronic rock that reminds us of 90s bands like Garbage and Hooverphonic. Then there is a powerful ballad “Woh Jahaan” with sarod, guitar and other instrumentation that makes the entire song a treat to the ears. In addition, at the end credit scene, there is a smooth transition of the song ‘Woh Jahan’ into ‘Rock On 2’ title track.
And finally, the most admiring number How Kiw/Chalo Chalo by Usha Uthup, and Summersault vocalists – Pynsuklin Syiemiong – Kit Shangpliang has a repeat value. Yes, the music trio Shankar Ehsaan Loy have been exceptional. The music simply grows as you watch the movie.
The Mesmerizing Shillong
The film Rock On 2 is shot mainly in Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya quite popularly known as the ‘Rock Capital’ of India. The scenic Shillong accentuating beautiful locales are visualized beautifully in the film, giving us some serious Travel and backpacking goals. Needless to say, it is always a pleasure to hallucinate under the gorgeous mountains and tea farms of the Northeast through Bollywood movies.
The Theme of Rock On 2 – Music Can Bring People Together
The film recites the story of bands and musicians who grow and evolve through the storylines. The characters come on a common podium to put the focus on a larger issue. The three band members – Adi, Joe and KD fight with their own internal demons and strive to bring forth the genius of the younger generation through new sounds, melodies, and tunes which could go on to become the melody of a new India. Yes, Music cannot only bring people but also generations together.
A Good Sequel
A good sequel is one that begins from where the original finished, retaining the essence of the prequel. Shujaat Saudagar’s Rock On 2 scores full marks in that division. The film charmingly starts with the last stage concert of Magik of Rock On and slowly takes us into the lives of each band member who are affected either by guilt, success or tragedy.
A movie for every generation, Rock On 2 is one of the most authentic and engaging sequels of recent times. In short, if music is the food of love, then this Bollywood flick is surely a feast.
