Echoing its commitment to bringing change at the grassroots by empowering girls and providing them skills and vocational education, Saakshar Educational Trust (SET) organized a 2-month free Stitching and Tailoring Course in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh.
The girl-centered initiative is part of the project by Saakshar Educational Trust that aspires to create a career path for underprivileged and economically backward class girls so that they too can learn a skill, dream big, be self-employed and become independent.
By imparting practical knowledge and training to 55 girls during the period of 2-months, the national non-profit trust has enabled the girls with employability skills, prospects of employment, and the aptitude to start their own tailoring center/shop.
Taking yet another step forward to provide skill-based education to young girls across Uttar Pradesh and India, Saakshar aspires to empower adolescent girls as well as women to realize their career, goals, and aspirations and at the same time address the socio-economic constraints that contribute to lack of education and early marriage.
Equipped with new skills and talent, the girls are now driven towards starting their careers in tailoring and supporting the family financially. This is one of the initial programs of the Delhi-based Trust that plans to run more such skill-based programs across India for underprivileged girls as well as women.
In a sincere effort to empower, and create potential women entrepreneurs, Mr. Shahid Khan, President, of Saakshar Educational Trust tells us,
“…to lift people out of poverty and adversity, it is essential that we elevate the livelihood capabilities of the underprivileged and give them enough access to sustainable income-earning opportunities.”
