Taps are frequently the most underappreciated finish in a kitchen. If you’re looking to cut costs after a major renovation, tap fittings may be a tempting place to start, but be cautious. A cheaper tap can not only detract from the overall appearance of a new kitchen, but it can also mean sacrificing functionality. When selecting a tap, there are several things to consider, such as shape, size, finish, and where to mount it. With that in mind here is what you should consider when choosing taps;

Function

Your taps are much more than just a source of water. When selecting a new faucet, consider how it will be used in practice.

You can get one with a detachable nozzle head to spray dishes or vegetables. Looking for a high-priced piece? Perhaps a Zip or Billi tap with instant boiling or sparkling water is the way to go. Totally separate purified water taps can be purchased for much less than you might think if you want something less expensive.

Finish

The finish of your kitchen sink taps should match the style of your kitchen and complement your equipment and gadgets. You might want to consider a black matte if you have an industrial style kitchen or, a pair of snazzy chrome taps would suit a modern minimalistic type kitchen. The great thing is that the choice is there to be had.

Shape

Not only is it important to pay attention to the spout’s shape, but you also need to consider if it will be functional. If you wash dishes, large oven trays, and pots and pans in your sink then you might want to go for something adjustable with a medium or high faucet and with enough power to get rid of any food remanence, you will find it to be more accommodating and practical.

Mounting

What determines where you install your new tap? Mounting it directly to the sink is often the most cost-effective and easiest option, there is then more room on the bench to store soap, scrubbers, the same can be said for a wall-mounted tap.

However, with wall mounted taps installation can be a more difficult task.

Ergonomics

There are many advantages to using a mixer tap although for some people they may be a little tricker to use depending on what set you to go for. There is, however, less chance of the user getting scalded and additionally if you choose simple set children and people with limited dexterity may find it easier to use.

Installation

If you are a trained plumber then you may want to fit your taps yourself although, let’s be honest, if you are at home then the chances are it will be before or after work or, at the weekend. Do you really want to be working in your free time? That one is entirely up to you, if however, you aren’t a trained plumber then you should seek the assistance of a professional to install your new tap system.

Some setups are reasonably straight forward whereas others can be very tricky and quite technical so make sure you get the right people on the job. Your supplier may even be able to offer to fit for you.
