It was five years ago, I wanted something new
Of the old ones in power, I was rather averse
I was tired of the same old corrupt leaders
I knew the risk, the new ones might be even worse
I remember it as if it was yesterday
It was a small price for development
Coz I believed ” Modi Hai Toh Mumkin Hai “
It started well
The speeches were good
My brother lost his business
but I gave him some food
He told me, in the future, a difficult path did lay
It was a small price for development
But I believed, “Modi Hai toh Mumkin Hai”
Two years didn’t pass
Demonetisation came at me like a Red Line bus
I stood in the queue thinking of the soldiers
Who stood at the borders protecting us
I heard how people had weddings but no money to pay
It was a small price for development
Coz I believed, “Modi Hai toh Mumkin Hai”
Then there was a funeral of my friend
It was something that he allegedly ate
They never confirmed what it was
But they did seal his fate
They told me, “It could be you too, one day”
It was a small price for development
But I believed, “Modi Hai toh Mumkin Hai”
This time it hit closer to home
My father hung himself by a tree
He was a farmer with nothing but his pride left
From his debt, he set himself free
“We will double your income soon”, I heard them say
It was a small price for development
For I believed, “Modi Hai To Mumkin Hai”
They gave speeches again
They told me what a great job they had done
The last five years were amazing
The next five would be even more fun
“Liars Cheats”, they told me but my Yes was strong than my Nay.
It was a small price for development
Coz I believed, “Modi Hai toh Mumkin Hai”
They are back in power
The lynchings have again begun
The unemployment has gone beyond control
The economy is on the bottom rung
“Told you so”, the voices in my head rightfully say
It was a small price for development
I honestly believed, ” Modi hai toh Mumkin hai “
I have no job, no money, no security
My life is just not the same
The people are being represented by criminals
I have no hope from them
I can’t provide for my own family and I have mortgages to pay
This can’t be the price for development
Was I a fool to believe, “Modi Hai to Mumkin Hai”?
