An Indian national, Satendra Siwal, working as a security assistant at the Indian Embassy in Moscow, has been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police on charges of spying for Pakistan’s ISI.

Siwal, a resident of Uttar Pradesh (Shahmahiuddinpur village in Hapur district), held the position of India-Based Security Assistant (IBSA) since 2021.

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) alleges that he provided sensitive information about strategic activities of the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of External Affairs, and Indian military establishments to ISI handlers in exchange for money.

Following an investigation, Siwal confessed to his involvement in the crime during interrogation at the ATS field unit in Meerut.

An FIR has been filed against him under Section 121A of the IPC and the Official Secrets Act, 1923.

The ATS obtained information from confidential sources indicating that ISI handlers were enticing MEA employees with financial incentives to gather information about the Defence Ministry, MEA, Indian Army, and military installations in India.

How was Satendra Siwal Caught by UP ATS?

As per the report, the UP ATS mentioned that Satendra Siwal, identified as one of the external affairs ministry staff, was in communication with ISI handlers, based on their surveillance. Subsequently, Siwal was summoned to the ATS field unit in Meerut for questioning, where his responses were deemed unsatisfactory. Upon further investigation, Siwal confessed to engaging in espionage for the ISI. The ATS, utilizing electronic and physical surveillance, revealed his involvement in activities against India in collaboration with the ISI network.
