Pottery and vases have been created and used for thousands of years to add beauty, texture, and design to the home. Whether your special piece is purpose-built, or was made to be strictly decorative, there are many ways that you can incorporate pottery and vases into your living space.

Pottery as a statement

Try using a large, eye-catching vase as a centerpiece on a dining table, coffee table, or console table. You can fill it with fresh or dried flowers, or even branches to create a stunning focal point in the room. Or look for tall, decorative floor vases to fill empty corners or to flank a fireplace. These large vases can be standalone statement pieces or filled with tall branches or dried grasses to create a dramatic effect.

Collections and nature settings

If you’re into collections, you can create a timeless display by grouping together different-sized pottery and vases on a shelf, mantel, or side table. Mix and match shapes, colors, and textures to add visual interest. You can also display some on stands or pedestals to create depth to this pottery collab. If you have any specific pieces that you’d like to have as a standalone, the living room, hallway, and bedroom are all great rooms to feature a showcase piece.

Ooh, and don’t forget about those gorgeous greens! Try using pottery and vases with hanging capabilities as planters. Hang them near windows or from the ceiling, filled with trailing plants or succulents, to bring a touch of greenery into your home. Just make sure that they’re mounted properly against the ceiling.

If you like to host, use small pottery or vases as individual place settings for special occasions or dinner parties. Fill them with small flower arrangements or single blooms to create an elegant and personalized touch to your table setting. For an outdoor setting, place weather-resistant pottery and vases in your patios or garden. Use them to hold plants, flowers, or as standalone decorative elements to enhance the ambiance of your outdoor area.
