Rajkumar Sushim in Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat is seen practicing tantric vidya. His mother Charumitra is highly influenced by the vidya. In fact, they have become an expert although it is against the law to practice Tantric vidya in Magadh.
Now that they have been doing this from the very start, often question arises whether they did these things in reality too.

There is no Evidence Whether Sushim and his Mother Practiced Tantra Mantra
Nothing much is known about Rajkumar Sushim in the documented texts. All we know is the fact that he was Samrat Bindusara’s elder son and the viceroy of Takshashila. In addition, there are few sources which highlights his cruelty towards Ashoka and how he tried to overcome him in the war of succession.
However, that doesn’t mean he was bad or had evil intentions towards Magadh. Besides, it doesn’t even highlight that he and/or his mother used the advantage of Tantra Mantra or some black magic against Ashoka or his mother.
In fact, Rajkumar Sushim was Samrat Bindusara’s Favorite Son
Though the serial shows Ashoka as Bindusar’s favorite son the truth is it was Sushim, the first born who was historically Samrat’s favorite son. He adored him and also wanted him to be his heir. It was Samrat Bindusar’s plan to make Sushim the future Samrat.
If Rajkumar Sushim or his mother Charumitra did Tantra Mantra by going against the norms of Magadh or would have traits that caused problems to the state, Sushim would have never been Bindusar’s favorite son. So, practically there is no chance that Sushim or his mother could have been practicing Tantra Mantra unlike shown in the serial.
Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat being a fictional serial, the writers have portrayed the mother-son in a negative light.
