The serial Chandra Nandni starring Rajat Tokas as Chandragupta Maurya and Shweta Prasad Basu as Nandini is confusing many people with the controversial plots and timeline in the story. One of the questions everybody seems to be asking is, “Who is Nandini?”
Well, like we mentioned earlier Nandini is simply a fictional character in the serial though she has been given the status and stature of Chandragupta Maurya’s wife Durdhara in the serial. Yes, Nandini is an imaginary character that represents Durdhara.
This makes us wonder whether –
Durdhara Was a Warrior Princess?
History has always been kind to women even if the circumstances weren’t so kind. This is the reason why we find the bravery of women often emphasized in our chronicles and documents.
However, with respect to Chandragupta Maurya’s wife, there isn’t a single description about her being a warrior princess.
Buddhist, Jain and Greek texts have covered several things about the Mauryan dynasty, but there isn’t a single line about Durdhara that hints or prove that she was a princess, forget being a warrior princess. All we know is how she died when Chandragupta Maurya shared his own food with her.
This incident of her death in a way gives us a hint that Durdhara would have been an ordinary woman otherwise she would have known what’s going in and around her husband.

Also, since there is no involvement of her even with Acharya Chanakya, we assume that she was a royal queen who remained aloof from administration, and concentrated on her domestic life like any other queen of that time.
