You never know when you will need emergency supplies at home, that is why first aid kits should always be on hand and stored in a safe place away from kids’ reach. You can purchase a fully stocked first aid kit from most stores, but sometimes, building your own is better.

When creating your own first aid kit, you can add valuable items like Promogran wound dressing, antiseptic cream, and many other things that aren’t standard in store-bought kits.

If you don’t know what you might need in your first aid kit, we have got you covered.

Plasters

You will need plasters or band-aids in a variety of sizes and shapes. Think about the angle of an elbow and how difficult dressing a wound would be with a square plaster. It is always recommended to use waterproof plasters or Promogran wound dressings.

Dressing Tape

Dressing tape will always come in handy, especially when in a pinch. If you do not have a plaster to cover the wound, a small amount of dressing tape and some sterile gauze creates a practical makeshift plaster with the added benefit of adjusting the size and shape to your need.

Sterile Gauze

Sterile gauze can be used for many things, including using disinfectants and gauze to clean a wound and prevent any festering infection. The gauze can also be used as a wound cover when you do not have a suitable wound dressing.

Disinfectant

The last thing you need is for an infection to start in a wound. Keeping the injury site clean and dry is one of the most critical steps you must follow. A simple disinfectant such as rubbing alcohol or a saline solution will prevent infections from starting in open wounds.

Anti-inflammatory Gel

Keeping the swelling down is a great way to manage the pain when dealing with sprains and strains. Make sure your first aid kit contains an effective anti-inflammatory. There are many types of anti-inflammatories to choose from, such as Voltaren Emulgel or Ibuprofen, or aloe vera.

Instant Heat and Cold Packs

If for some reason, your electricity goes out or you do not have access to a microwave or freezer, instant heat and cold packs do pack a punch. A squeeze activation pack is easy to store and quick to use.

You can use hot and cold packs at home to tackle joint pain and even manage the symptoms associated with Arthritis.

Antihistamines

Antihistamines could often be the difference in saving a person’s life, be it a spider bite or a bee sting. Antihistamines could potentially prevent severe allergic reactions in a person and give you the time to rush someone to the hospital in the case of a severe allergy. Considering not everyone is aware of their allergies, it is not a risk you should take. However, there are instances where an antihistamine could help with all the pollen in the air around springtime or prevent swollen eyes associated with allergy flare-ups.

Ibuprofen Or Paracetamol

A fever can suddenly onset, or it can be something you fight to keep down. Keeping some form of fever management in your first aid kit is recommended. Some fever medications also work for pain and inflammation. You can also keep a variety of home remedies for pain management.

Tweezers

Splinters are a pain to remove without tweezers. Keeping some within reach can make splinter removal so much easier. Tweezers also make cleaning debris from a wound easier and less painful. Covering an open wound with debris inside could cause infection; remember to always remove as much dirt and debris as possible before covering an injury.

Triangular Bandages

In some cases, it does not make sense to keep a sling in your first aid kit, but an injury could call for the use of a sling. Triangular bandages can be used for various things, such as a makeshift sling, a tourniquet, or a towel.

Keeping a stock of the right first aid kit items in your home could prevent situations of panic and chaos. You never know what kinds of accidents and injuries you might face, so keep your stock topped up. Remember to make sure your products aren’t expired; this could be the difference between sheer panic and calm situations. It never hurts to be over-prepared. Moreover, remember that you can customize a store-bought first aid kit as well.
