There is sheer ‘culture and heritage’ in the name –’ Fathom 2016 ‘. Organized by Pondicherry University Northeast India Community (PUNEIC), the annual cultural festival emphasizes the rich heritage of Northeast India.

Scheduled on October 8, 2016, Fathom 2016, the ethnic extravaganza is an ideal platform to showcase the coveted classical and folk dance forms of Northeast to the world.

Under the gaze of cultural, social, traditional and ethnic carnival in the  Pondicherry University, the Northeast community strives to create an atmosphere of peace and harmony.

Fathom 2016 by PUNEIC

Fathom is an annual fest by PUNEIC, an active community in Pondicherry University with around 400 members including student and the faculties. Incepted in 2014, the fest includes a series of events including a football tournament, cycle rally, knowledge fest, documentary shows, skit, vocal performances and dance to highlight Northeast’s custom, tradition, values, and culture.

In a prelude to the Fathom Fest the Pondicherry University North East India Community have organised many sports and competitive events.

A Football tournament was successfully organised by the PUNEIC members in the Pondicherry University campus. Further more a football friendly was held at the Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research(JIPMER) football ground between the JIPMER and PUNEIC teams to publicise the upcoming Fathom Fest. A bicycle rally was organised  within the University campus on the 6th of October.

Events like Quiz, extempore, essay writing and elocution competitions were also organised to build up the excitement around the Fathom Fest. Now on the 8th of October the heritage, beauty and culture of North East India will be on full display. The colourful culture of the  Northeast India will be showcased through documentary shows, skits, Vocal performances and folk dances.

A North East Cultural Gala- Fathom!

One can experience the most vibrant, vivid and intense folk dance forms of Northeast India in Fathom 2016 along with a documentary that emphasizes the region’s rich culture and tradition!

The Fest comes alive as it offers a feast for the eyes for the audience with different dance forms of Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. Moreover, the traditional showcase in the form of ramp walk and the documentaries further add to the rich heritage.

Watching these performers is ought to reveal the age-old tradition, nuances and finesse, one always marvels at the sheer talent, the art of storytelling and the rich culture that is intrinsic to Northeast India.

This marvelous cultural festival by PUNEIC features all of the prominent classical and folk dances from Northeast including Boro Dance (Assam), Dahal Thungri Dance of Bodos (Assam), Adi dance (Arunachal Pradesh) Shad Mastieh Dance (Meghalaya), Cheraw Dance (Mizoram), Lebang Mwsamung Dance (Tripura), Khamba -Thoibu Jagoi dance, Tangkhul War Dance (Manipur), Shad Sukra dance (Meghalaya) and Ancient Naga victory dance of Nagaland.
