After Jodha Akbar, TV Czarina Ekta Kapoor is all set to give us yet another historical saga. This time the story backs to third century showing the life of Mauryan founder Chandragupta Maurya and his wife. The serial goes by the name “Chandra Nandni” where Chandra stands for Chandragupta Maurya and Nandini represents his wife, the warrior princess.
While, historical evidence suggests the name of Chandragupta Maurya’s wife as Durdhara, the serial portrays her as Nandni. Essayed by Shweta Basu Prasad, here we share everything about the role of Nandini – the warrior princess.
Nandni is the Daughter of Dhana Nanda – the Magadh King before Chandragupta Maurya
Before Chandragupta Maurya took over Magadh, the Nanda dynasty ruled Patliaputra. Mahapadma Nanda was the founder of the dynasty. He was the son of the king of the Shishunaga dynasty from his Shudra wife. When his brothers from royal mothers opposed his growing influence, he killed them all (the same thing was repeated years later by Ashoka the Great).

During Chandragupta’s time Mahapadma’s son Dhana Nanda ruled Patliaputra. According to the serial, Nandni is the daughter of Dhana Nanda though in reality Chandragupta’s wife Durdhara is believed to be the daughter of his maternal uncle.
Nandni Hates Chandragupta Maurya
It is believed that Chandragupta Maurya killed Dhana Nanda to acquire his kingdom with the help of Chanakya. Though it is highly debatable, some people believe he even married Dhana Nanda’s daughter. So, the serial Chandra-Nandni focuses a deep and intense story between Chandragupta Maurya and the princess, whom he marries later after defeating her father Dhana Nanda.

She Is Portrayed as a Warrior Princess
Nandni in the serial is no ordinary princess. She, in fact, is a warrior princess who grows up learning war tactics right from her childhood. However, things take a drastic turn when Chandragupta comes and dethrones her father from the throne. Her world is shattered as she sees her relatives and kins dying at the hands of their enemy who later also becomes her husband.

So expect a lot of fights and martial arts from Shweta Basu Prasad who plays the role of the warrior princess. On the contrary, little is known about Maharani Durdhara being good at martial arts apart from the fact that she died after accidentally eating the toxic food meant for Chandragupta.
